Finances

Accommodation costs will vary depending on whether you choose standard, premium or private accommodation, and how long you are staying. Prices can vary from around GBP 130 to 300 per week. Other living costs will vary according to your lifestyle. As a rough guide, you could expect to need to budget for GBP 113-149 per week. If you are an international student, you should also budget to cover the cost of your visa application and the Immigration Health charge, and make an extra allowance of up to GBP 600 for other expenses on arrival. http://www.reading.ac.uk/ready-to-study/study/fees-and-funding/fees-and-funding-ug/living-costs.aspx

Insurance

It is sensible to insure your possessions and belongings whilst you are studying at the University. If you are living in University halls accommodation there is basic contents insurance included in the halls' fees. Full details of the cover and exclusions are available from Endsleigh Insurance. If you are living in private accommodation then it is your responsibility to gain the appropriate contents insurance. Your home university might be able to assist you with this so please liaise with them regarding your options. Make sure that all your belongings are insured (including clothing, computer, electrical equipment, jewellery, etc.) as well as checking what you are covered against (e.g. fire, flood, theft, etc.). Medical Insurance: Students staying for six months or less should be sure they are covered either by the European Union (EU) reciprocal arrangements (for EU students), by their home University or by private insurance arrangements made before they arrive in Britain. https://student.reading.ac.uk/essentials/_money_matters/insurance.aspx
